You can now embed video, hosted on Vimeo or YouTube, into your BirdingNZ.net posts. These video hosts make uploading video very easy, taking care of file conversion and resizing to web appropriate specs.
Of course, posted videos should be appropriate and comply with all the usual rules.
If you have an account with either Vimeo or YouTube, simply upload your video to your account, then for Vimeo copy the URL for the video, or for YouTube just copy the ID (the numbers and letters after "v="), then click on the appropriate button above your message on the BirdingNZ page then past the URL (or paste the URL, highlight it then click the button).
This will insert the required bbcode tags, but you can type them manually if you want, there's no magic about it.
If you don't have a Vimeo or YouTube account you are welcome to send video files to me and I will upload them to the BirdingNZ YouTube account (as an "unlisted" video, so it won't appear in YouTube searches) and send you the link to post.

Re: Inserting video
When I try to insert video, there are no vimeo or youtube buttons at the top of the page, so I cannot complete the operation. Am I doing something wrong? I do have a youtube channel and used to be able to put video on this forum.

Re: Inserting video
I seem to have sorted it! I paste the URL into the message box, highlight it, then press the URL button.

Re: Inserting video
Sorry Alan, I should have updated this thread. It doesn't currently work as described above. Actually, what I need to do is update the site so it does work, but this is not a small job. Services like YouTube and web browser software change often and it takes a bit of keeping up.
For now, please just past a link which will take people to the video on YouTube or Vimeo etc.
