Last night while photographing the sunset at Okarito I took a photo over the beach and noticed what I thought were 2 gulls over the beach. The bird on the right had a distinctive white band on the upper rump. The image is heavily cropped so image very poor quality as it was about the sunset not the bird. See picture.

Looks like a second-year black-backed gull, transitioning from juvenile to adult plumage.
