Long-tailed Cuckoo arrival Bay of Plenty

Postby erikforsyth » Mon Nov 16, 2020 11:27 am

Hi all

a Long-tailed Cuckoo was calling in roadside forest on Highway 30 between Lake Rotoma and Kawerau on Sunday. I managed to find a pullover and watched the bird calling on an open branch (Rata sp).

Best wishes

Just been *trying* to see them in the Tararuas, near Pukaha: I can hear plenty of them up there

We had several Long-tailed Cuckoos arrive around the 5th of November on the West Coast - Waiwhero Scenic Reserve. These birds kept calling all day long, not just at night or early in the morning. Quite a number of Shining Cuckoos arrived there about three weeks earlier.

Was at Lake Rotopounamu yesterday, which I've always found to be a good place for LTCs, heard two which was a bit disappointing but at least they were there.
