Tauranga 11 Nov - From the track from Fraser St to Yatton park alongside the estuary. I could hear one somewhere up the bank towards Fraser St,

Te Puke 12 Nov - we visited a friends house-site-to-be up No3 Rd. There was a cuckoo in the trees above the proposed house-site.

Had the pleasure today of having 7 or 8 birds at Victoria Park in Christchurch, all together, repeating their downward call at each other. Never seen anything like it and quite a cool experience.

Over the last week or so the shining cuckoos have gone quiet around me. The last one I recall hearing was on the 14th in the Hunuas but they had already stopped singing around home (Papakura) then. Maybe the cyclone provided the perfect tail wind.

Is anyone still hearing them?

Ian
