Pāteke at Whitford

Postby Bruce Keeley » Wed Jan 22, 2025 7:14 pm

Pāteke are not unusual at Ayrlies wetlands, Whitford, with one or two often seen.
Today there were at least 10, in groups of 2, 3 and 5 and all in close proximity to a similar number of Grey teal.
I suspect there may be some Mallard genes in the pool, but all had pale eye rings and looked more Pāteke than anything else.
All 10 were adult sized. The group of 5 could have been a family. A closer inspection would be useful.
