I must admit I'm a little confused by the seemingly conflicting info. I was getting my figures from the link Kate sent, then selecting Pouto Point on the Kaipara.
This one: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://static.charts.linz.govt.nz/tide-tables/maj-ports/pdf/Pouto%20Point%202025.pdf
Should I be looking somewhere else to monitor when we're next due for a 4.3 or 4.4, as the Pouto Point tides seem to range between 2.6 and 3.6 in a month using that site.
I've been at the north (and south) end when the tides are high enough to force the birds to congregate at either end, but was more interested in when the tides would force them in around the causeway, since the causeway has been pretty dead each time I've been. I've seen some shots of PGPs, knots, etc in amongst the glasswort and other vegetation around the causeway, which was my main reason for asking. Hope that makes sense. Cheers.

I use the Onehunga tide tables. They will give you those tide heights and I think the times are fairly close. Whatever the datum, you're just looking for the biggest tides of the month and hoping they're not too big. On these tides you can start at the causeway but you want to be at the north end, as much as two hours before high tide so you can find a good place to settle in before the birds come.

Yes sorry Brendan, I was referring to Auckland tides charts which we traditionally use for the lower Kaipara as well as Manukau when organising censuses, but should have said so

That's Auckland Onehunga for west coast and Auckland Waitemata for east

Re: Big Sand Island highlights
No worries at all, that does clarify it though, cheers. Looks like Sunday should give a good tide for observing the birds on the causeway amongst the glasswort etc - just as something a bit different to seeing them at either end. Appreciate everyone's help on this.
As an aside, who's best to speak to if I wanted to get involved with helping out with censuses and surveys in the Auckland region? Feel free to PM me if this is derailing the thread too much.

I like this tide forecaster from NIWA.
It goes back to 1830, not that I think I will need that feature much.
You just click the place you want tides for on the map, put in a date (future or past) and you get high and low tide times and heights.
