Migration in Full Swing - No Closed Borders

Postby Paul Gibson » Sat Mar 21, 2020 11:51 am

Spent some time this morning at the Whanganui River Estuary with the remaining Godwits, some having already migrated. Very refreshing to be out there, in these uncertain times. Good to see the birds packed with fat and ready for the long journey. Among those still to leave is the bird with flag AJD, who has been here the last 12 years and always migrated on or around March 25 (bird at right of picture below). No closed borders for these migrants, even travelling to North Korea, as seen by the fascinating flight paths of the satellite tracked birds, that Phil told us about in previous post.
