Shoreplovers in Plimmerton
For three days now I have seen two shoreplovers in the vicinity of the firestation nearby shore area in Plimmerton. Rose Collen from DOC tells me that they were only released on Mana last Friday and are two female birds from Puaka. One has a single white band and the other is YO:WB.

Lucky you! Hopefully they’ll control rats and get people to keep their cats inside to prevent what happened last time from occurring again.

Big seas this morning and very little beach for our local shoreplovers so they have to resort to the Seawall - doesn’t seem to worry them though

Re: Shoreplovers in Plimmerton
Three Shore Plovers at the Plimmerton fire station today around 2.30 pm, feeding on the northern side near the fire station, quite active. Several other people around watching them and photographing them. Using the convention left leg top, bottom / right leg top bottom, the bands were: yellow orange/white,blue; yellow,orange/red,blue; red,orange/blue,yellow.

There was a Shore Plover with a couple of Banded Dotterels at the far ocean-side of Waikanae Estuary sand-spit a couple of days ago, feeding on the receding tide. Didn't get close enough to determine the exact banding (so as not to disturb them feeding) but got impression of yellow and orange.

Anybody know if the shore plovers are still hanging around at Plimmerton?

I saw on the news that DoC had recaptured all three of them a week or so ago to give Mana Island another go.
