Bittern - waikato river area. These are secondhand reports form local farmers.Reports form last 5 weeks. No specific location.
Aka aka - more than one Bittern regularly seen around river/ swamp area. One farmer told me" one of them was making that noise they do". Seems like a strange time to be "booming"
Limestone down(between Nikau caves and port waikato)- Bittern seen regularly in creeks/ drainage ditches.
Waiuku gun club - there is a small lake(parkinsons lake?) with reed-beds. saw a bittern fly into reeds but could not locate it. This morning.

I have one resident on my farm at Waipu, Northland.Dry weather has shut down its feeding options ,so I see it nearly every day near one of the last fishing holes!

cool. Maybe drying swamps have forced them to move more and are more visible?
