Foxton Egrets

Postby ledzep » Sat Aug 07, 2021 9:02 pm

Sunny day at Foxton Beach today with Paul Gibson, Jane, and Dianne Parker. A White Heron mid-morning feeding to the right of the viewing platform at the end of Dawick Street. Couldn't find it again later in the day. The long-staying Little Egret was near the viewing platform later in the day, and 4 Cattle Egret in fields (with 8 White-faced Heron around them) best viewed from end of Flagstaff Road. Plenty of White-faced Herons and a group of Spoonbill, so good variety of Heron's today.

Little Egret is still at Foxton Beach, with good views from the Esplanade. Also a group of Spoonbills, and counted 80 Bar-Tailed Godwits (and 1 Lesser Knot).

The little egret was still at Foxton today. Waders were: 194 godwits, 50 SIPO, 2 VOC & 1 banded dotterel. 500 red-billed gulls seemed a lot.

Michael Burton-Smith reports the Foxton Beach Little Egret has reappeared today, I had no sign of the bird on Saturday afternoon.

Little egret seen well this morning from Dawick St viewing platform at Manawatu estuary, last recorded here by Neill Haggarty 11 March, and at Ohau Estuary on 5 March and 19 Feb. Hasn’t been viewed here last three days by myself or other birders, or with two checks at Ohau Estuary. Not seen this afternoon when stopped past the viewing platform again. Glad to see it the once, beautiful bird with a fairly frenzied feeding style!

Little egret viewed from Dawick St platform this morning, to the right of the platform. Present 7am until at least 11am, although often periods out of sight further up the small estuary stream
