Not a bean yet in and around Christchurch including several braided rivers where they’re usually quite conspicuous

At Russell.
Heard first Shining Cuckoo on 5th October for spring 2021 at 1130am.
They're late this year.
Usually heard here in mid September.
It is possible, when cuckoo has been heard late other years, there has been strong SW winds which may have delayed their arrival.
No strong equinoctial South-Westers this year.

Heard my first one for the season on the 30th of September at the Karamea estuary, then on the 1st of October around the Oparara Arches and on the 2nd at the southern end of the Heaphy track. None around Punakaiki as of yesterday.

There was one here about three weeks ago and then nothing until the 5th, but again yesterday but no so far today. I guess the first one just shot through, maybe this one will stay.

One at Spencer Park Christchurch today.
