Joe Bliss and I enjoyed a productive seawatch from Stirling point today. Typically quiet until a large fishing vessel headed into the harbour; birds associating included three White-chinned petrels, first I have seen from the mainland. Also 14 cape petrels, 2 Northern giants, 2 sooty shearwaters and one Southern Royal Albatross, along with Buller's and White-caps.
Around to Awarua bay for the high tide we were rewarded with a good selection of common waders, plus one curlew sandpiper and the long-staying Terek.
Cheers,
Sean
