Today there were three godwits at the far side of the Whakatane Estuary relatively opposite the Whakatane Boat Ramp. Also seen was a New Zealand Dotterel, and a couple of spoonbills.

Believe it or not, this is a regular thing. Possibly the smallest resident godwit 'flock' in the country. Single digits present every summer. I suppose it is likely that these birds are actually nomads from the Ohiwa flock but not completely sure. Maybe Erik or Tim might know?

Pretty sure that Godwits are very mobile around the Bay. Numbers can vary a lot between sites.
