The DOC duty officer has confirmed the sighting just north of the Rangitikei River mouth and is now following up to find any further details about it.

The DOC Manawatu office has replied to say they received a report from a member of the public that an "Antarctic penguin" was on the beach at Scotts Landing on the north side of the Rangitikei River mouth last Friday, and that since it was not reported as sick or in distress they did not take any further action.
