albino hen pheasant

Postby Jeanette Nee » Wed Nov 24, 2021 3:45 pm

Monday november 22nd I sighted a rare albino hen pheasant Upper Ohauiti bush up near State forrest 69. I have recorded a clear digital image of her and an interested mate - Cock pheasant. I have both clear pictures of her and a two minute movie of her interacting with male cock pheasant.

Did she happen to have a few normal-coloured feathers dotted in the white?

The reason I ask is because I used to breed and release a few pied/white pheasants. Through selective breeding, we could get very white-looking birds but they always had a few normal-coloured feathers flecked thoughout. They also had blue eyes. I've never known of true albino pheasants
