White-winged Black Tern - Hawkes Bay

WWBT still present today. One of the Little Terns was there yesterday, but not seen by me today, and it looks like all of our Back-fronted Terns have gone (South?).

Hi all,

I was very pleasantly surprised to find the HB White-winged Black Tern still present at the Tukituki rivermouth again this afternoon, after a gap of almost 2 weeks. I thought that the cold weather would have moved this bird on like Sean's Whiskered Tern in Invercargill.

Another surprise was that there were 5 Black-fronted Terns there too, with 4 being immatures. There have only been 2 immatures at most so far this Winter. I wonder where they have been hiding??

Hi all,

White-winged Black Tern still present this afternoon, along with 5 immature Black-fronts (so another increase in the number of immatures?) .

Yesterday there were 2 of our Little Terns at Clive, today one was there.

Yes - a pity the Little Tern didn't land next to them!

Those legs on that Caspian look extraordinarily long though. Do don't often see them stretch out like that.
