Tattler sp.- Ambury Regional Park (Auckland)

We caught the high tide at Ambury Regional Park and, whilst there were a negligible number of birds in front of the hide, the nearby sand island had thousands. In addition to the usual suspects, there were two sharpies, one whimbrel and this tattler. Which species? We are favouring grey-tailed but happy to be corrected on this.

It was feeding in a mixed flock of about 5000 birds following the ebbing tide at "traffic lights Bay" Mangere this evening

I had brief views of a Tattler at the middle shell bank at Ambury Farm late yesterday afternoon. It flew off west on the ebbing tide. I am unsure of the species and there was a possible second bird as well. It would be worth taking a look at high tide today.

What type of shorbs are around there right now? Want to brush up on my identification/knowledge as I'm most likely heading down there this Saturday still any wrybills this time of the year(assume not)? Also are the best viewing opportunities from the bird hide or? As I feel my binocs may not have enough reach to get iding views.

Several thousand bar-tailed godwits and red knots, plus wrybill (about 15 of them), NZ dotterel, pied stilt, oystercatchers and the rarer species mentioned above. Most of the waders were roosting on the shell island, which is a few hundred metres west of the bird hide. You'll spot all the birds grouped together. And yes, unfortunately a spotting scope makes things much easier and helps a lot with identification. All the best.

There is also a Pacific golden plover out there at the moment (I saw it last Saturday and on the 23rd October), and 9 or so ruddy turnstone have been on the rocks at the viewing hide shell bank
