10 cattle egrets at Maketu, Bay of Plenty
Yesterday afternoon there were 10 egrets with the cattle in the paddock on the NE corner of Ford Rd and Kaituna Rd. There were also SIPO and a few godwits on the far side of the same pasture. It's pretty wet after all the rain.

8 egrets today. Not there when I went down to the cut but with the cattle when I came out - just over an hour after low tide, which was the same as last week. That was also 1-1.5 hours after low.
Today there was also someone else stopped to see them and they said they had been at the Kaituna Wetland earlier today and had seen a white heron and 2 bittern not far from the carpark.

There were seven cattle egret roosting on the maimai in the estuary when I had a quick look on my lunch break today (12.30pm).
At Kaituna Wetlands the white heron was hanging around not far from the carpark, I didn't have time for a decent bittern search.
A fantastically birdy part of the coast, I look forward to coming back with more time on my hands.

Hi there,
Check the embankment south of the new cut, park by the painted building, walk down to the first white post past the 'keep out' sign (they are only joking honestly) - the cattle egret are often in those wet fields immediately south. It's now the regular high tide roost for Bandies and later PGPs and sandpipers.
Cheers
Tim
