A single bird was seen at close quarters on Monday 1 August at the exact site described sometime last year, beside 2 picnic tables and under a large willow. The water level was high with a swift outflow beside the tree. The crake was feeding amongst flood debris at the water's edge.
50 years , almost to the day, since my last and, until now, only sighting of this species!
