Awarua bay highlights 11th August 2022

Hi all.

Cracker day for waders at the head of Awarua Bay today.
Highlights included:

47 Southern New Zealand dotterel
2 Greater sand plover
1 Terek sandpiper
1 Red necked stint
1 Wrybill

Nice selection of good birds Bradley, for mid winter, well done. Wish I was a bit closer. Like your pictures.

Greater sand plovers, terek sandpiper, New Zealand dotterels, wrybill and red necked stint all showing very well this arvo.

Yes certainly quite the nice winter flock. Yea bit of a trek for you but well worth it!

41 species at Awarua today over the high tide period, highlights below:

250+ Bar-tailed godwits
42+ Southern New Zealand dotterels
11 Ruddy turnstones
2 Greater sand plovers
1 Terek sandpiper
1 Red-necked stint
1 Foveaux Shag
Fernbirds and Brown Creepers heard in scrub

Cheers. I'm still quite sore from crawling and contorting for so long! Over the next while we will compile dotterel band combos from all of us + Bradley's trips and see how many we got, then send them to the right people. Bradley returned today and noted only 31 dotterels, 1 godwit, and no sign of the stint, sand plovers or turnstones, but was only there for an hour. Even so a big difference from yesterday with godwits practically falling out of the sky.

Great visit to Awarua bay today. highlights included:

1x Curlew Sandpiper
1x greater sand plover
1x Southern New Zealand dotterel
24x Red-necked stint
