Kaka in the Tararuas

Postby Paul Shortis » Sat Sep 03, 2022 11:16 am

Went for a walk up to Atiwhakatu Hut yesterday. I do this track regularly in an attempt to stave off old age. Spotted a single kaka busily feeding and calling about 15 minutes before the hut. First time I have seen kaka up this valley. Hopefully, a sign of things to come!

Probably more than at least 10 up there because the fly from kapiti island and up the waikanae river and into the tararuas as they are highly abundant there.
