Curlew Sandpiper, Manawatu estuary

Postby haggarty » Mon Sep 19, 2022 5:20 pm

Seen at the estuary hanging out with wrybills. Pretty sure it is a curlew sandpiper and not something rarer. I have excellent photos but cannot post till tomorrow as I am at our beach house and cannot upload here

Photos only turned out OK, but good enough for ID. I post a very poor photo of another wader that was way out on the mud flats, would appreciate ID please

The other wader is a Northern New Zealand Dotterel.

Lovely shot. Looks like a wee group of juveniles have arrived together. Got to be a good thing! :)
