Cattle Egret Whanganui River Estuary

In a failed bid to see the whimbrel I did see this bird that I believe is a cattle Egret? Would appreciate confirmation. Flew down river and landed on this drift wood right at the Karoro road access end of Gilberd street. Only hung around for a couple of minutes. Sorry about quality of photos, heavily cropped on a heat hazy day! But should allow experts to ID

I’m not an expert, but I’d say that’s a cattle egret.

Pity you missed the whimbrel, today we found it upstream from Beach Road, with a group of godwits, at about 3.15 pm. I plan to check again tomorrow at about 4.30 pm. Been here for 9 days now.

An interesting find in the cattle egret, we rarely see one on the Whanganui.
