Hi Michael

I will attach a photo of the Grey Plover seen on the Whanganui Estuary 26 October 2019. It is a flight photo, not great, but it shows the diagnostic dark armpits you are asking about.

Cheers

Thanks, it wasn't clear what he meant, especially without a photo.

Useful folks if someone could get a pic of this bird in terms of the UBR - black armpits are diagnostic for Grey Ploverc but a photo showing on this bird would be pretty helpful.

Dianne and I were up there today but it was raining hard and steadily. There was a Turnstone feeding busily on the pebbly islands, but we didn't see any sign of other waders or the Plover. There were Banded Dotterels in the carpark, 3 Spoonbills, Caspian Terns, Pied Shags, and lots of rain. There were a couple of Godwits up the beach at Waitohu Stream rivermouth, but a pretty wet day for birding. The Grey Plover may still be around.

I will check this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon for the plover if gone it would be good to check nearby estuaries like manawatu pauatahanui and ohau but smaller ones could provide the bird.

I am going to Ohau on the 5 of jan but who knows if its still around then.
