Re: White-winged Black Tern + Eastern Curlew, Miranda
White winged Black present today at 1350, at the northern end of the stilt pools (closer to the Shorebird Centre). It hung around for about 20 minutes and then flew south towards the carpark. We did not re-find it after that.

Re: White-winged Black Tern + Eastern Curlew, Miranda
this bird was seen today roosting with the WF Terns, which have just started laying eggs on the outer shellbank out from the main hide.
The WWB Tern was harassing the WF Terns until they ganged up on it and it headed out into the Firth to feed.

Sightings on a visit to Pukorokoro Miranda on Sunday 15 January with Steve Wood included 1 White-winged Black Tern, 2 mostly black stilt hybrids, a White Heron, an Eastern Curlew, 80 Pacific Golden Plovers and 600 Wrybills. We also visited Piako at high tide where we also saw 2 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers and 5 Pacific Golden Plovers. There are some photos and further details in the eBird checklists here:

Hi all,
We (a Wrybill group) were at Miranda this afternoon/evening and had:
1500+ Wrybill
3 Sharp-tailed Sands
One Red-necked Stint
64 Pacific Golden Plover
and the WWBTern, and Great Egret.
I was told that the Curlew was seen this morning but wasn't apparent this evening.
cheers

No sandpipers this morning but did spot the Black-tailed godwit in front of the hide (along with two Buller’s shearwaters), the Eastern curlew and 70 Pacific golden plovers near the carpark, and the White-winged tern over the stilt ponds nearest the road. The kotuku was around last night too.
