Pretty quiet start to the year. Ken, Erik and I saw a breeding plumage Cattle Egret at Te Pa Ika at high tide, 22 Pacific Golden Plover and all the usuals there. The Little Tern was drifting around the estuaries as per usual. 47 Wrybill at Pukehina Spit on the beach.
Good to be out and about nonetheless.

Re: Maketu/Little Waihi - Pectoral sandpiper
One Pectoral sandpiper with 42 Pacific golden plover at the back of Little Waihi estuary yesterday. Little tern with the Bar-tailed godwit flock (521) and Knot (92). Banded dotterel numbers are building up (82) and good numbers of Wrybill (55).
There are some interesting long-winged greyish golden plovers around. I'll write more on that later.
Cheers
