Hi all
Les Maiden sent me the attached image of a tui with white tail feathers, taken at Day Bay (Eastbourne, Wellington) on 28 August.
Cheers

Now that is a pretty bird, looks like tuis were meant to be black & white.
Maybe he's arrived from Hawkes Bay

Re: Tui with white tail feathers
We spotted a white tailed Tui today in a 'flock' of about 30 in the 'Tui' cherry tree on our property in Cambridge.
It had a tail with white on either side with a fine strip of black down the middle. Also had stronger strips of white on its wings.

Re: Tui with white tail feathers
I've had a tūī with a single white tail feather in the garden (near Pirongia) for the past month or two.
