This afternoon there was a Whimbrel in with the Bar tails, but unable to pick out a Hudsonian that was apparently seen at the weekend. One observer found a small wader in with the Bar tails, that he felt might be the Little Whimbrel, but before there were clinching views, it disappeared in the now sleeping godwit crowd and we were unable to re-find it.

A very high tide came in early due to the wind making wader watching difficult, however this did produce good views of a Buller's Shearwater between Miranda and Thames

There is a Whimbrel viewable from the main hide today having occasional arguments with Bar-tailed Godwits. There is still no sign of the Northern Shoveler, so I feel it is fairly safe to assume it has departed.

Cheers,

A couple of hours this afternoon revealed an increase of 704 Godwits and 280 Knot since Friday.

Spring is here

There continues to be large increases of Godwits and Knot, but of note today were 10 Pacific Golden Plover, all actively feeding.
