Re: miranda today
A Whimbrel on the shingle bank brightened up an otherwise bleak morning, and a large count of 102 Caspian Terns were also present.

Tony Habraken reports a Brown Booby feeding offshore at Whakatiwai on Saturday afternoon.
the bird was feeding on its own by diving from relatively low height.
totally brown above and much white below.
seen at some distance offshore, so keep looking seaward if you are in the area.

Re: miranda today
The Brown Teal was still at Miranda today, but sadly for some, the Northern Shoveler is still absent.

Sadly, the respite from car break-ins has come to an end as there are two patches of window glass today. It is some months now since the police were given photos of the car that is doing the break-ins , but nothing has happened.

Yep, not good news. The only thing a couple of us are doing is closing the gate in the hope that it may delay and put them off. Police stations do have yellow signs saying "nothing of value is left in this vehicle". Paul did put some in the visitors centre a while ago, so maybe there are still some there. They have a hook on them to put either on the steering wheel or rear view mirror, or both.

Re: miranda today
perhaps camera need to be installed and a lock on the gate where the key is collected from the center.
or set/relocate up the center down at the car park

Re: miranda today
One Sharp-tailed sandpiper in almost full breeding plumage, two Curlew Sandpipers, one with a splash of red on breast and a basic plumage Sanderling, and two Pacific Golden Plover. Knots in every conceivable plumage. An interesting and enjoyable few hours.
