Hi Jake,

Just wondering, did you manage to get any further with that info of a claimed report of 29 birds on that pond in Tasman district please?

If true, it could be where some of the previously produced broods from the playhouse ponds are now hanging out?

Many thanks,

Chris

I checked the Playhouse ponds a couple of times today, to and from Motueka, with no sign. I then checked some nearby ponds and found 14 wood ducks at Hoddy Park, a couple of kms down the highway towards Nelson. They came out of the willows as I walked around the pond and shortly after flew off! Obviously pretty flighty and mobile birds.

Hey there, the man's name is Geoff Irvine and he has just gotten back to me with:

"Hi Jake , Hoddys pond near pukeko lane in Tasman had twenty odd"

So I hope this helps! Just had a look at a satellite image of the area and looks like they've moved a little S.E. to a different pond is all

That's great they are still in the area. We had a 3 hour look at Playhouse Cafe lakes in late December and saw no sign of them. Maybe now that their numbers are slowly increasing they have outgrown the Playhouse Lakes which are very small. Cheers Scott

Sixteen birds present on the Playhouse Cafe pond at around midday today, eight males and eight females. The wood ducks were the most abundant waterfowl sp. present, outnumbering the 12 mallards, 3 paradise shelducks, 2 grey teal and 2 scaup that were also present.

Cheers,
Nikki
