Was across in Mapua Yesterday, saw seven wood duck, three males, four females. Had to wait at the pond for about 2 hours before they showed up, but well worth it, nice birds!

Persistence pays off sometimes Mike. Going to have a crack end of July. Fingers crossed.

Five wood ducks on the pond yesterday- 3 males and 2 females. Was in a bit of a hurry so didn't spend too long, will return next week and hope for a closer look and perhaps better shots.

Hi, does anyone have an update on the Wood Duck still being around or not please? The birds are monogamous and so I wonder if any have paired off yet to try and breed.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi all,
Just had a text from Phil Hammond who reports 2 drakes and 2 ducks in the normal place this morning.

Just wondering if anyone has seen the Wood Ducks in Mapua recently? We're heading down that way next week and it would be great to see them.

They'll be there ourspot, it's just a matter of whether they will be on view of not- the ponds have many overhanging trees and much of it is hidden. If you're in the area then it's worth visiting to see.

Hi FlyingKiwiGirl. Thanks for the info. We're planning on spending a good amount of time at the pond so hopefully they'll show for us :) Cheers Scott

On the NZ WATERFOWLER Facebook page someone is saying that they saw c.29 on a pond in the Tasman... not too sure what to make of that. He has supplied a photograph showing at least ten birds. Trying to find out more

I had a quick look at the Playhouse Cafe pond yesterday. No sign of the Wood Duck.
