Yesterday I saw a Black-browed Mollymawk 200-300 metres offshore from the Sirens in the Taputeranga Marine Reserve (in front of Dive Wellington and the Beach House). It was interesting to see it close to shore - it was flying with several Fluttering Shearwaters in a moderate northwest wind.

Plimmerton Domain is the place to be if you are a Song Thrush. Usually Blackbirds outnumber them on playing fields, but around lunchtime today I counted around 20 Song Thrushes and 5 Blackbirds near the car park in Plimmerton Domain. That is the largest number of Song Thrushes I've seen in one place.

Good views of a Falcon today near the Birchville Dam on the Cannon Point walkway, -41.090481 175.085316. Calling and flying overhead over the gully on the track leading south up the hill from the dam. Also views of several male Tomtits near the Cannon Point trig and some Whitehead and California Quail.

A very vocal adult male falcon sitting on a roof top a few houses down the road this morning - that is Mt Victoria in the background. It eventually flew high over central/downtown Wellington and curved east over Roseneath.

We heard one from home yesterday, and Alan Tennyson and I saw one from work (i.e. over Pukeahu War Memorial Park) on 7 Nov.

Pair of Red-Crowned Parakeet calling and flying at the Otari-Wilton bush carpark entrance off Churchill Drive. This isn't the first time I've seen and heard them in the immediate area (see previous posts).

There has been a family of Eastern Rosella's hanging around in the trees behind the sports field beside Lady Norwood Rose Gardens, Wellington Botanic Gardens. Saw 4 this morning. They are making different calls, so I assume 2 adults and some nearly fully-fledged juveniles.

There again this morning, same tree. The calls are a bit different between adult and juvenile, but still distinguishable as Rosella calls.

We have Rosellas in our garden often at the moment (there's an apple tree with apples) and the calls they make between the 4 of them are a softish chuckling noise - its very nice to hear in the garden. I think 2 of the 4 are juveniles. I saw a video recently of a group of juvenile kaka at the Wild South Hospital who were making a similar noise among themselves.
