Massey Uni falcons

Postby philbattley » Fri Sep 01, 2017 10:06 am

Hi folks, I reported earlier that two falcons had been present on an off on the Massey campus in Palmerston North. The female has been semi-resident for months now, and is often present in the mornings around the Vet Tower and AgHort blocks. The male is present intermittently, but when they are here they can give awesome photo opportunities if you happen to keep a camera in your filing cabinet at work... They catch Rock Pigeons periodically so are working pretty well as a biocontrol agent for Facilities Management. They also get seen over Palmerston North and in the surrounding countryside. It's completely marvellous.

Cheers, Phil

Wow! What a great bird to have hanging out at your work place. Always pays to keep a camera in the filing cabinet.lol. Great shots and thanks for sharing.

And even better to have a technician who is also mad keen on photography (Cleland Wallace) who calls on the cellphone to say "Phil, grab your camera and get here NOW!"

The female has been getting really aggressive towards the bird that keeps showing up in the reflective window on the end of our building...

Maybe you need a decal on that window. Interesting goings-on, I hope we hear about nesting soon.

Are the Massey Falcons still in residence? Got 16 days birding in NZ soon and aware that missing Falcon is entirely possible...!

Thanks
