Blue Duck Tongario River

Postby Mike Vincent » Sun Nov 05, 2017 7:38 pm

There are a pair of Blue Duck with three ducklings in the vicinity of the Hydro, Breakfast and top of the Major Jones pools on the Tongario River. We have just returned from a weekend in Turangi and saw the them Thursday evening, Friday and today. It is interesting to watch the adults shepard the ducklings in the slower water on the edge of the river and then take them across to the other bank stopping in mid stream to allow a slower duckling to catch up.

There are also whiteheads singing all along the river bank through Turangi - appear to be a common backyard bird in the homes along the river.

cheers
