Geoff de Lisle told me that one chick fledged. I have not seen any NZ dotterels at the site since this time, so I presume that they have headed off somewhere over the winter, as they apparently did last year.

Both on the mud in the slight embayment on the Eastern/Southern bank at about 11.30 AM today. I thought it would be a struggle to find them (sheltering) on the spit with the southerly blowing hard, especially as I did not get to see them last year. One stood out at long range because of the glowing breeding plumage. Nice.

Probably the same 2 birds (based on their plumage: 1 very red, the other very pale) present together on the spit yesterday.
