Tattler at Waikuku Beach

Postby jeremytaylor » Fri Nov 17, 2017 8:01 pm

Was with a Don Parish at Waikuku Beach when we saw this tattler. Looking for identifications on NatureWatch to confirm species ID https://inaturalist.nz/observations/8835667

Hi Jeremy,

100% a Grey-tailed Tattler. The distinctions between Grey-tailed and Wandering are many, but mostly quite subtle. Supercillium, loral stripe, general plumage shade, shape and more. This bird fits Grey-tailed very well in all respects.

Nice one.

cheers

Hi Phil,
the tattler was still there two weeks ago. I haven't been to the Ashley river since.
Cheers,
Matthias

Hi Phil,

I spent some time there yesterday morning but didn't see it, only B.T.Godwits. (I found a sick B. Dotterel so didn't stay as long as I may have.Took it to a Vet for a check.)

Happy Birding. Bev.

Hello All,
Grey-Tailed Tattler still present at the Ashley estuary. Seen feeding along waters edge with 1 B.T.Godwit (mid in coming tide) today.
Happy Birding this weekend.
