Single Asiatic whimbrel (rump seen) best of it at the stunning Karamea estuary this evening. Big lagoon to the South of the river.
Happy New Year to birders all!

Hi Russ,
Low tide visits only as I haven't sussed out where roosts form, also access isn't all that easy. Estimate 80 barwits feeding on the lagoon to South of river, and 35 on that to North. Apart from a dozen or so Bandies, no small waders seen. Hoping to check out the Oparara lagoon North of Karamea today.
Cheers,
Sean

35 barwits the only migrant waders seen at Omarama lagoon the other day. Definitely worth a check though. There is also a freshwater pool with lots of emergent vegetation beside the airfield in Karamea that has 'mega' written all over it in my opinion!
