Dark faced Grey-faced petrel - Three Kings

Postby Tim Barnard » Sun Mar 31, 2019 4:43 pm

Hi
We picked up this bird on the last day of our pelagic. I am happy with it being a Grey-faced petrel. Structurally it fits as Grey-faced rather than Great-winged petrel. Over the years I have seen many GF pets (adults and imms) on the ocean and in the hand but I think this one is at the darker faced end of the spectrum. I remember Brent reporting dark faced birds in the Tasman on an NZ - Aus trip a few years ago.
Anyway, I thought it worth sharing.
Welcome your thoughts ...
All the best
Tim
