Full on calling up there Ian? Last few days I thought I might have heard the old song thrush doing the cuckoo imitation, but was very faint and I couldn't pin it on anything.

Neil

There were about three fairly long sets of whistles this morning. Not a thrush.

I've been outside for a the past few days and pretty confident they are not down here yet. Maybe not far away though.

I heard my first Shinning Cuckoo of this season back on the 22 August here at Te Awanga, Hawkes Bay.
First couple of days was only the ascending call then changed to full calls.
I think it is just the one bird and is heard most days.

Good to see another record. Bird here seems quiet now but heard another at Pukekohe East last Sunday and another at Onerahi, Whangarei on Thursday. Good to know someone else cares!

First one of the new season here in our backyard in Golden Bay on Saturday 15/9. Looked back thru my diaries for previous years - normally heard/seen between about the 18/9 and 25/9 in my backyard each year, so they're consistent.
