Finally - a loud and bold Shining Cuckoo in our front garden today, Waikanae. Cheered me up no end after a brutal council swimming pool inspection. :D

About 90% sure I saw one just inland of Eketahuna on Saturday while driving. Still haven't heard one this season though

Still none heard in Pukerua Bay and none heard over 3 hours walking through bush, scrub & farmland at Paekakariki.
Hopefully that ex tropical cyclone that hit at the end of summer didn't result in mass casualties to migrating birds....

One seen at Wairakei terrace resort yesterday while in the pools. Saw it flying around the gum trees and singing

Shining cuckoo heard at Auckland Botanic Gardens in the camellia / magnolia gardens on 23 September 2018 at 9.04 am. I counted 17 upward notes at one time. Grey warbler also quite vocal.
