First time back to Farewell Spit since I saw the Eastern Curlew there July 25th, and it's still there. Same place, almost right out in front of the carpark at the base of Farewell Spit. Not sure whether it's come and gone, or just over-wintered right there at the base of the Spit. Seems odd nobody else has put up a sighting, it's hard to miss. Not overly bothered by people walking on the Spit.

Spoke to Paddy who runs the Farewell Spit tours, his guides have been seeing the curlew regularly so it looks like it's spent the winter here. An easy NZ tick if anybody wants it on their list. The godwits are coming in now but haven't seen any red knots yet.
