Possibly a female Kalij Pheasant? Must be an escapee from somewhere

100% a female silver pheasant. It's unlikely that there are any kalji pheasants either in captivity or free-ranging in NZ anymore. The only other species in the genus in NZ is Swinhoe's, but the females are super distinctive. We also used to have Siamese fireback pheasants, but they died out about a decade ago. Himalayan monals could be on the way out too

Looks like Silver Ph. to me, the little black crest and general shape are spot on. Lots of pheasant fanciers keep them.
