Hudsonian Godwit - Hawkes Bay

Postby sav » Sun Nov 04, 2018 1:37 pm

Hi all,

While taking part in the Birds NZ shorebird census this morning, me, Ian Smith and Erin Pointon found a Hudsonian Godwit at Porangahau, towards the Northern end of the beach.

Ian thinks it might be a first rcord for the region? I can't remember any from this part of the world.

cheers

Hi all,

It turns out that there was a previous HB record for the species, but it was 28 yeras ago, so I hope to be forgiven for not remembering that!

Great sighting Sav and team! Wonder if that was the bird seen at the Hokitika rivermouth? Although I suspect it’s headed south somewhere. Hopefully it’s the start of a good wader season to come.
