Weka established in Whakatane

Postby erikforsyth » Mon Feb 04, 2019 8:24 pm

Hi all

there has been a flood of recent sightings in Whakatane, including three birds calling in forest adjoining houses in White Horse Lane at 10:00am today. Three separate birds were calling a couple of evenings back at the end of West End Beach in the forest patches on the hills. On several walks through the Ohope Bush and Mokorua Bush Reserves I have heard several birds calling inside the forest at dusk. There have also been several road casualties pointing out a reasonable population.
Yes, they certainly appear to be established going on the many calls and several sightings.

Best wishes
