Shore plover around Auckland

Postby jdowding » Wed Mar 13, 2019 1:42 pm

We've recently released some more juvenile shore plover on Motutapu, so if you're out and about in the Auckland region, please keep an eye out for them. We have a student monitoring their spread on the island, but records of birds off-island would be much appreciated. One has already been seen at Whitford and others are very likely to turn up on the mainland over the coming months. In the past they've been recorded as far south as Miranda, and as far north as Mangawhai. A couple have also turned up in the Kaipara, and one on Coromandel, so anywhere within about an 80 km radius of Motutapu seems possible. All birds will have four colour bands, two on each tarsus. If you see one, please try and record the colour combo (or take a photo), with location and date, and either post here or email to me at <nzdott@gmail.com>.
Many thanks
