2 x Hudsonian Godwits at Piako Flood Plane

Postby phil hammond » Sat Apr 06, 2019 9:37 pm

The signs are down and the cycle track is open again. I was there for 4 hours this morning and Janie Vaughan was there for part of the time.
Highlights were :
2 x Hudsonian Godwits and 2 x F E Curlew.
There were also 25 PGP, about 350 Wrybill, and most of the other usual suspects but no Glossy Ibis Cattle Egrets, Knots or other small sandpipers and only about 30 barwits.
Both of the hudwits lifted their wings for absolutely positive ID
It was the first time I've seen 2 of them in the same place in NZ
21 of the PGP did not have transmitters. The other 4 were further away but I don't think they did either

One of Janie's photos shows that in fact one of the PGPs did in fact have a transmitter
