Australasian Bittern, Matata Wetlands, Whakatane

Hi all

quite a surprise to see this bird enjoying the sun at 1:30pm today at about 20 feet away! watched for 3 minutes before it flushed into a nearby reedbed.

Also recorded: Canada Geese, Paradise Shelduck, Australasian Shoveler, Grey Teal, Mallard, NZ Scaup, Caspian Tern, NZ Grebe, and Fernbird heard only
