NI Robin, Onepu, Whakatane

Postby erikforsyth » Thu Apr 25, 2019 8:03 am

Hi

just back from the Onepu cycle track where I clearly heard the song of a NI Robin for 3-4 minutes. Onepu cycle track is a Pine Forest, with fern and native bush undergrowth. The closest populations for this species are, Mokorua Bush Reserve near the town of Whakatane and the other Kaharoa Forest, which is a good 40 minutes as the crow flies. As far as I am aware there are no trap lines or baiting stations in this area and can only presume this is a wandering bird.

A lone Kaka flew over Gorge Road, Whakatane at 5:30pm yesterday.

cheers
