Australasian little grebe in Taranaki

Postby simon.fordham » Tue Apr 30, 2019 11:30 am

Whilst in Taranaki, catching riflemen for Rotokare, we were told of an Australasian little grebe on Lake Managamahoe. We were also told that this is a first for the region.

It took us two attempts but we did find the bird, be it somewhat distant. Fortunately, we had our scope with us.

The approximate position of the bird was 39° 7'27.34"S 174° 7'22.98"E

This was seen from the road, right by the horse-riding facility.

Cheers

I had a look at lake today and could only see one grebe but it was on far side of lake and even with scope could not id it as Aus.

Live just down the road from Lake Mangamahoe so went down for a look today, managed to spot it and take a photo, thanks very much for the post.
