Phil Hammond, Paul G, and myself had a great view of the Little Stint at Kidds Shell banks today. Also present were the 2 greater sand plovers, 6 red neck stints, 2 whimbrel and all the other usual suspects. Little was very active feeding for most of the time we were there and seemed to associate most with a sharp tailed Sandpiper. No sign of possible Cox's

Here's an average photo (will upload more when I get home if any are better). A great day out.

Cheers Scott

Is anyone planning to go next Sunday (29th) or willing to take a visiting birder from Christchurch out to see the site then? I'm looking to book flights etc but would ideally like to know about accessibility first. Cheers, Warwick

Hi Warwick, I think you have my contact details from a Tutukaka pelagic. I will know within 24 hours if I can go that day. Just a note on logistics, it's a big 4.4 m tide that day at 10.50 am. The shell banks will be cut off by incoming tide for about 5 hours or so - - - a great time to be there but it will mean you will need to be at the airport by about 6.45 am

10 people went out today (Saturday) and had great looks at the Little Stint. High tide was quite low so most birds were spread out but we still got onto the 2 sand plovers along with 5 whimbrel.
